Caro cared for my mother during the night shift for two very long and difficult days in the ICU—nights when my mother consistently decompensated and fear felt overwhelming.
In those darkest hours, Caro became my anchor. She was always attentive and vigilant, carefully monitoring my mother's condition, recognizing changes, and promptly reporting them to ensure timely interventions. Her clinical awareness and calm presence gave me confidence during moments when everything felt uncertain.
As both a nurse and a daughter, I found myself torn, unable to separate my professional instincts from my grief. Caro saw this immediately and stepped in so I could step back. Because of her, I was able to stop being the nurse and simply be a daughter. I trusted her completely with my mother's care, and that trust brought me peace during unimaginable moments.
During the final 24 hours of my mother's life, Caro walked beside me with extraordinary empathy. She gently helped me prepare for the most difficult decision I would ever have to make. The words she spoke—"What would your mom want?"—will forever resonate in my heart. Those words grounded me in love, dignity, and mercy.
My mother was 90 years old. She had lived a beautiful, full life, and in her final days she was suffering. When the moment came to make a split-second decision about life-saving measures, I knew in my heart what my mother would want. With Caro's compassionate support, I chose mercy and allowed my mom to go peacefully.
Caro never left my side. She was present for my family and me every step of the way. After my mother took her last breath, Caro was one of the nurses who held me and cried with me. In that moment, she was not just a nurse—she was a source of comfort, love, and shared humanity.
