We would love to recognize Nurse Caroline Gachuiri for her integrity in doing her job. She has gone above and beyond for our family member. She does an excellent job, not only for doing what her job tells her to do but for doing it with much compassion. The way she tries to make us feel secure that he is well taken care off and the way she tries to make us feel better when we are at out lowest by telling us that we will be okay. She performs all her tasks with such love and care. Having to be a nurse is a tough job already but doing it like you love your job is something we want to thank Caroline for. She treated our loved one as if he was her own family member. She has touched our hearts by taking care of him the way she has and she deserves to be recognized.
***
Caroline Gachuiri has such a great bedside manner with families. On several occasions she has been overheard speaking with a patient's family member. On one occasion, she was on the phone speaking to a member of a family who was torn between withdrawing care and trach/PEG. Caroline's words, tone and caring manner were transparent, even over the phone, as she had a tough conversation with the family member about withdrawal of care. The family, who had previously refused to come to the hospital in fear that they would be pressured to withdraw care, came the next day and allowed their loved one a dignified death.
On another occasion, she was heard speaking with a family member ensuring her that she could go home and get some rest. Caroline told the family member that the patient was in good hands and that she would take excellent care of him and to call her immediately if anything changed. The family member felt very comfortable and knew these words to be true. Caroline is a wonderful nurse who can be entrusted to provide care for any family member. She is truly deserving of the DAISY Award!
