Caroline Hanks, RN
I am writing to enthusiastically recognize Caroline Hank, RN, for the DAISY Award. As a dedicated and compassionate member of our Emergency Department (ED) team, Caroline exemplifies the very essence of what this prestigious award represents.
Caroline’s exceptional kindness, competence, and compassion are evident in her daily interactions with both patients and colleagues. One particularly noteworthy example of Caroline’s selflessness is her initiative to purchase and assemble 200 age-appropriate diversional activity kits for our pediatric patients in the ED. These kits, which include coloring booklets, crayons, fidget bracelets, bubbles, and other items, help alleviate the natural anxiety children experience when visiting the Emergency Department.
Caroline’s generous donation of these kits, driven by her desire to improve the care experience for our pediatric patients and their families, has significantly contributed to creating an emotionally safe environment for our youngest patients.
In addition to her compassionate care, Caroline is highly skilled in ultrasound-guided IV insertion. Recognizing the need for continued training in this area, Caroline voluntarily offered to become a certified trainer to support the professional development of other ED nurses. Through her dedication to teaching, she has provided both didactic and hands-on skills training, as well as competency validation, for several of our nurses. As a result, our department has expanded the number of nurses who can successfully perform ultrasound-guided IV insertions for patients with difficult vascular access.
Caroline’s expertise has not only reduced pain and discomfort for countless patients but has also earned her the trust of those who specifically request her because of her skill and compassionate care.
Caroline’s unwavering commitment to excellence in clinical practice, coupled with her profound compassion, makes her a role model and an exemplary representative of the nursing profession. She embodies the qualities the DAISY Award was created to honor and consistently goes above and beyond to provide outstanding care to patients and their families.
