Caroline exemplifies the kind of nurse that patients, families, and staff recognize as an outstanding role model, and provides care and compassion every day.
My first encounter with Caroline was the same day I found out about my Sarcoma cancer. After she introduced herself, she pulled a chair right next to me, sat down, held my hand and told me, "you will get through this, you're not alone, we have your back every step of the way". And every single step Caroline sure was there. I felt so much relief and worried less knowing I have a phenomenal breast navigator guiding and directing me to the path I needed to be! Caroline even made sure I got to enjoy my birthday (with the fear of thinking this was my last birthday ever seeing again).
During my journey with Caroline, I have gained a family member who cared for not only me but my family members as well. Her ability to listen to her patients turns their day around just by remembering something that was important to them. Caroline is respectful, an excellent communicator, and always willing to help others.
Caroline is a remarkable Nurse Navigator and a true patient advocate. She goes the extra step for each patient she cares for and brings positive energy to the Hughes Cancer Center whenever she is working. Caroline's dedication to her profession is her nature.
***
I have had the pleasure of working side by side with Caroline McConnell, our breast nurse navigator, since the beginning of her employment here at our facility. The care and compassion she exudes are not only commendable, but it's also something I strive to emulate daily. She is someone I consider an outstanding role model to everyone she comes in contact with.
She is here every day with a positive attitude and a smile that lights up the room. She demonstrates the ability to work well under pressure and goes above and beyond her job description and expectations. She is a fierce advocate for our patients and her follow-through is impeccable. She visits with our breast patients the day they are diagnosed with cancer; the day where they are the most vulnerable and have the most questions. She is able to put their minds at ease and answer any and all questions they have with knowledge and compassion.
She is not only there for the patient, but their families as well, every step of their journey here at our facility. Having Caroline as a co-worker is an absolute honor. I can't name just one example of her extraordinary care, because she is absolutely exceptional each and every day!
