Caroline advocated for the family and was determined to give all that she could for them to deal with the tragedy that occurred.
There was an unfortunate outcome in the ED where Caroline was the bedside nurse for a family whose infant did not survive a home birth. From the time the newborn was brought to the hospital and attempted resuscitation indicated the infant would not survive, Caroline was committed to this family and supporting them. She used every available resource to her to provide support for the family. She also stayed with them post shift completion to ensure they were cared for and given all the time they needed at that time to accept the loss of their infant daughter. While all floors are confronted with death and dying and working through the emotional trauma, this type of situation is somewhat unique as we often are not dealing with poor outcomes from a home birth. Caroline advocated for the family and was determined to give all that she could for them to deal with the tragedy that occurred.

Caroline works every day to give her patients and families the most ideal care she can provide for them. Without being asked she goes over and above for unanticipated needs. She does this with grace and poise and is a role model for many of the nurses, regardless of their career status. I am thankful Caroline chooses to be with us to practice as a nurse.
