I never forgot the kindness and grace that Caroline afforded both me and my son during those difficult days.
I was a patient at NYU in June; I delivered my son, S, and spent 6 days in the hospital because of preeclampsia. I wanted to send an email to you because the care I received from the nursing staff was superb. However, most notable for her excellence was one of your nurses named Caroline Steig. It took me this long to send this email because the past few weeks have been difficult and a blur. Throughout this time, I never forgot the kindness and grace that Caroline afforded both me and my son during those difficult days. Additionally, she did all she could to educate me and my husband on essential aspects of caring for a baby, and we still use those strategies to this day. She was communicative and explained what we could expect in the next steps, such as the bloodwork taken for jaundice. Every step she took seemed intentional and it was evident she truly had her patients' best interest in mind. As a result, I made it my business to call (at 10 PM when the baby is asleep LOL) and retrieve your emails because it is important to me that she is recognized for her tenacity, dedication, and diligence.

Caroline demonstrated excellence when providing care to her assigned patient. To know that the patient is still utilizing the strategies she learned from Caroline during her hospitalization speaks volumes. In addition, this demonstrates the importance of effective communication and ongoing education between the patient and their healthcare provider. Patient outcomes are improved, and errors are prevented when there is an open dialogue between them and their providers. It brings me great joy to know how Caroline has touched the patients' and her family's lives. Without hesitation, nominating Caroline for a DAISY award is an honor.
