We had the unfortunate and difficult situation of a lovely patient passing away. We had to tell her husband that his wife had died despite our best efforts. Caroline took charge of getting the husband and a chaplain in an appropriate conference area and stayed with him until I was able to come and talk to him. When I arrived, she had obviously spent time with the husband and prepared him for the news of his wife's death. After our discussion, she stayed by the husband's side for comfort and to help him manage for the next hour or so - including seeing his wife's body. Her demeanor and compassion were exemplary throughout the night and much appreciated by the staff, myself, and I am sure, the family.
