I went to Regions Hospital and was admitted right away. The following day, I was unexpectedly diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. My world was turned upside down; cancer was the furthest thing from my mind. I was transferred to 5300, the oncology wing, and I was terrified of what I was facing and all the unknowns ahead.​

Once I met Caroline Thronson, I immediately felt more secure. Her care, compassion, and exceptional nursing expertise made an overwhelming situation feel more manageable. She always seemed to know exactly what I needed and took the time to explain anything I had questions about, offering reassurance that helped ease my fears. If she didn’t have an answer right away, she made sure to find one.​

I underwent very intense chemotherapy shortly after being admitted and experienced many difficult days from the side effects. Caroline was incredibly in tune with everything I was going through and was quick to help manage those side effects. Her compassion, skill, and knowledge were deeply comforting and made my experience so much better during an incredibly challenging time.​

Caroline consistently went above and beyond in her care, and I will forever be grateful for the impeccable support she provided. When I told her I was being discharged, she came in to say goodbye, and we both had tears in our eyes. She truly made a lasting impact on my month-long stay in the hospital, and I will never forget the difference she made in my journey.
