August 2026 Honoree
Caroline Welborn, RN
I would like to recognize Caroline for the extraordinary compassion and dedication she showed to a young mother who was battling cancer and preparing her young children for a life without her.
Recognizing the importance of creating lasting memories for the family, this nurse went above and beyond her normal duties. With her own money, she went to a local craft store and purchased glass frames and paint to help create a special keepsake project. She worked with the mother to make handprints and to incorporate messages for her children, creating treasured memories that will allow the children to feel their mother’s love for a long time.
Caroline wanted to ensure the children had a keepsake that they could carry with them, wherever life’s journey took them. This was an expression of genuine compassion, empathy, and human connection. Caroline understood the emotional significance of preserving these memories and took the initiative to make it happen when the family needed the support the most.
Through her kindness, creativity, and willingness to go far beyond the expectations of her role, she provided comfort to a grieving family and helped create an enduring legacy for this mother’s young children.
Not only did her actions exemplify the values of nursing, but they also showed her commitment to the ministry’s mission to extend the compassionate ministry of Jesus by improving the health and well-being of our communities and bringing good help to those in need, especially people who are poor, dying, and underserved.
