Had we sent that child home, he might have died. Carolyn saved that child's life.
Carolyn is celebrating her 40 years of employment with Saint Peters. During her tenure, she trained countless student nurses, mentored newly hired nurses, and expertly cared for her patients with superior skill and compassion. All in her quiet and unassuming manner. I know this because I worked with her for years as an RN myself and countless times sought her advice and counsel. If all this was not enough, I was on duty with her one day and given the assignment of a baby already seen by the pediatrician for discharge. This baby was going home, and the parents had received training on the use of an in-home heart monitor. Carolyn observed the case and said to me that she felt if we were sending this baby home with a heart monitor, we should monitor the baby with that monitor prior to discharge. I agreed and placed the baby on that monitor. Not long after, the alarm sounded with an arrhythmia. NICU was called, and the baby was ultimately transferred to CHOPS that day. Had we sent that child home, he might have died. Carolyn saved that child's life. Please consider this long overdue award for one of the finest Nurses Saint Peters has ever had on staff, with whom I was blessed to work.
