Carrie is more than a great example of what a caring, compassionate nurse is all about. I witnessed the best care I have ever seen in my 15 years in health care. Carrie had a patient who was at Same Day Care, however, he was not appropriate for SDC. Carrie made this man feel like he was her only priority. She went above and beyond by providing this patient with complete cares. This patient was in a neglected, bad physical state of health. He had multiple health problems, electric wheelchair bound, which he was unable to sit properly in and his head was off the side and he was tied in around his chest with a gait belt, arm amputee, cerebral palsy, incontinent, unable to perform personal hygiene, and now fractured leg. Carrie did not complain about the patient's inability to do his own personal cares and his lack of any hygiene. Carrie took the time to provide personal hygiene to this man and his wheelchair. She made sure he got his medications from the pharmacy. Carrie was an advocate for this patient and followed up with ensuring he had follow up appointments, contacted his caretakers on proper transferring of the patient. Carrie also contacted his care manager to follow up. This patient left the clinic grateful, appreciative and sitting upright in his chair correctly, clean dry clothing, and total personal cares performed. Carrie has compassion for her patients, and this is what nursing is all about. Inspiring.
