Carrie is a very caring and compassionate nurse. She is efficient at her work, but still finds the time to develop a wonderful rapport with her patients. In one particular example, she cared for a pediatric patient with a chronic disease process. This patient came to the Procedure Center several times a week. Carrie became close with this patient and her mother. Eventually, the mother vented her feelings about the disease and treatment plan for her daughter to Carrie. Carrie listened, without judgment. She encouraged the patient's mother to contact the primary care physician for a question and answer session and possible referral to a specialist. The referral was made and the patient treatment plan was changed. Mother and patient couldn't have been more grateful. This referral allowed our patient to be able to go back to a regular school schedule which hadn't happened for almost a year. The mother is much happier with less stress! Carrie advocated for this family and made a huge difference in their everyday lives. Her compassion and integrity truly speak our Mission.
Another example, Carrie was recognized by a patient for the excellent care she received. The patient stated that Carrie provided her with what she needed, a quiet room with the door shut, warm blankets and she was able to get her infusion done in 2 ½ hours vs. 4 ½ hours (this is how long it took at a previous facility the patient had been to) and most of all, for being very nice. Carrie cares for patients every day with kindness, compassion, and respect. She has an instinct for and anticipates patient needs. She goes about her day caring for patients in a very calm and quiet manner, never expecting to be recognized for what she does.
