I do not even know ho to begin to say “thank you”.

Our brother, Michael, has battled bladder cancer for five years. His physicians have been the best and The Christ Hospital has been Michael’s hospital of choice and is his “comfort zone”. The Christ Hospital has always welcomed Michael with a smile from check in to open arms and support form staff members.

There are dozens that were extremely good, helpful, and caring nurses, students, cleaning personnel, and the list goes on. However, I want to acknowledge an OUTSTANDING nurse on 4 West – Carrie Hughes. Michael was admitted in February 2010 and the cancer had spread to his head. Radiation was recommended to shrink the tumors and from there the doctors would discuss the next steps. Michael, who was 60 years old and deaf, lived with my sister and her husband for 22 years. Carrie took such good care of Michael, provided that extra mile. She made sure his meals were set up for him since he could not call to order them. She also made sure someone would feed him once the meals arrived. Carrie fed, took special care of him – her kindness was never ending. Her gentle touch towards Michael was overwhelming for us. It was comforting to know that when the family left for the evening Michael would be taken care of. Our family has NEVER experience anyone like her before. Michael left Christ Hospital on February 23rd and was admitted into Hospice where he died the next morning. At the funeral, tears, cries of sadness and joy spread throughout the service and if you listened to each of us you could hear Carrie’s name mentioned saying…..”I hope Carrie is still at Christ Hospital when it’s MY TURN”….
