I was in a boutique in New Prague, the owner knows me and asked if I worked at St. Francis. When I said yes, she went on to talk about her father who passed away a few months ago here and what a "beautiful experience" his death was. He was in SCU, and the discussion to remove him from ventilator came up and was decided. I asked her which nurses she remembers and she said "Carrie". Carrie had told her what a privilege it was to care for her father and their family. Her father was extubated and died about 45 minutes later. Carrie "made my father's death a beautiful experience", as if God was working through her. She will think of Carrie every year on her father's anniversary of his death and have a smile on her face.
It was very inspirational for me to be in the community and talk to a family member in this manner. She will always remember her father's death in a beautiful way because of Carrie. Carrie truly lives the St. Francis mission every day.
