Not only can she tell you something special about each patient, but she can even tell you the regiment the patient is on without even having to look it up.
Carrie has been with the OPI center since it first opened its doors and because of Carrie’s leadership and extraordinary skills she is one of the contributing factors to their growth and success. Carrie has excelled within the profession of nursing by being a certified Oncology nurse and a role model for all nursing staff on her unit. She possesses knowledge and expertise when it comes to Oncology/Hematology and is most certainly without a doubt the go-to person for all staff members. What sets Carrie apart from the pack is that not only does she have a wealth of knowledge, but she continues to learn and has that drive to continue to learn as much as she can and shares that knowledge with staff members and the patients she touches daily.
For new hires, Carrie is the person who we often have precept at least a few times when she is not running the floor just so new nursing staff see what the standard looks like and that they should model the care that Carrie delivers to our patients. Carrie consistently collaborates with the entire health care team which includes nurses, advanced practice providers, doctors, and other providers in other disciplines but always places the patient at the center of her care. Daily you will find Carrie reviewing all charts for the next day to ensure orders are placed appropriately and that labs are done prior to treatment and that there are no concerns about proceeding with treatment so that patients are safely given their infusions. To ensure that the next day goes smoothly for our nursing staff and that patients are delivered their infusions in a timely manner she does not leave until everything is prepared even if that means leaving late every single day because she is that selfless.
To be on this unit you need to not only have compassion which she demonstrates daily but takes the time to get to know the patients on the unit and she does this so much that she knows something special about each one—truly gives that individualized touch by investing time. Not only can she tell you something special about each patient, but she can even tell you the regiment the patient is on without even having to look it up. Carrie truly exemplifies what a nurse is and should be in every aspect of the word. She is selfless, flexible, compassionate, and empathetic, and truly impacts patient care and their lives hugely. This unit is forever grateful for her leadership, dedication, and life-long commitment to continuing education.
