I felt like I was Carrie's only patient that she had to take care of even though I know she was busy.
Carrie is an amazing nurse who is able to critically think ahead and come up with a plan to make the night as best as possible. The night prior I didn’t get any consistent sleep (different RN) because the RN and tech were on a different schedule, so I would just fall back asleep and 1.5 hours later, someone else was coming, turning lights on, etc. My night with Carrie was 100% different.

We came up with a plan for my pain meds and PRN meds at the beginning of the shift, and she said she would plan to work with the tech to cluster their care as much as possible so that I could sleep. It was the best night’s sleep I’ve had since before my infection pain started even at home. She had to even wake me up gently because she was so quiet. I can’t express how much I appreciate this and respect this as a former night shift worker. When there was a time I was more awake and Carrie had a few minutes, we had a nice time chatting. I felt like I was her only patient that she had to take care of even though I know she was busy. Baylor is lucky to have Carrie on their staff taking exceptional care of their patients. Carrie also was great about updating the whiteboard with medication due times which is so helpful when you are 1. Hurting 2. Half-asleep 3. Don’t need to call out for meds if it isn’t time yet taking time away from staff who could be doing other things to care for patients!
