She has given us so many precious moments with him and many picture opportunities. She isn’t just there for the babies. She is also there and supportive to us, the parents.
In June 2024, our son was transported to the Advocate Children’s Hospital, Park Ridge Campus NICU. He was born at exactly 24 weeks. He was so little and needed respiratory support. It was a very emotional time for us. We had to trust in God’s will and trust the nurses to take care of our baby. The first time Carrigan had our son, and we met her, I instantly knew we could trust her with our baby and trust that he was being well taken care of. Carrigan was very patient and understanding. She was assigned to him a few more times, and when we received updates from her, it was very clear what her plans were for him for the night. At the time, he had a breathing tube in, and she just knew everything about him. She knew how to handle him like she had been taking care of him for years. She knew how he liked his tube, which side he favored for positioning, and even which cheek swabs he liked. She was the first nurse to ask if we ever held our baby, and she asked us if we wanted to hold him. That moment meant the world to us. Before she asked us if we wanted to hold him, we never knew we could hold him. She has introduced us to many of his firsts, including holding him, doing diaper changes, pressure holds, skin-to-skin/kangaroo care, etc. She has given us so many precious moments with him and many picture opportunities. She isn’t just there for the babies. She is also there and supportive to us, the parents. We asked her to be our son’s primary nurse, and she accepted. We feel great knowing that Carrigan will be a part of our baby’s NICU journey until he graduates and comes home. Carrigan is definitely top tier. She is so deserving of the DAISY Honor. #carrigancares #ourbabysprimary
