Carson, being worried about the child not receiving proper nutrition, donated an extension set and feedings to this patient.
After a long shift one day, Carson had been rounding on PEDS and assisting with an IV placement. The patient has an extensive medical history and has a PEG tube. This pediatric-sized tube (Mickey button) requires an extension set to be connected to the kangaroo pump for continuous feedings. The family of the patient did not have the extension set or any available feeding for the child, they lived over an hour away so retrieving this equipment was not an option at the time. The hospital does not carry the extension or the feeding. After assisting at the bedside, Carson realized that the feeding the child uses and the tube he has is just like his son’s. Carson, being worried about the child not receiving proper nutrition, donated an extension set and feedings to this patient until the family could obtain the child’s personal items from home. Carson went above and beyond for this patient and his family, and I would like him to be recognized for his compassion for his patients.
