November 2023 Honoree
Cary Robinson, RN
My husband had surgery at Duke Hospital in Raleigh. It was supposed to be an outpatient procedure and he was to go home that day. After surgery, he was in excruciating pain. Cary was taking care of him. Cary did everything that he could to help my husband. He had other patients but was very attentive to my husband and did his best to try and ease the pain. My husband was in severe pain and there was no way that we could have managed that pain at home. Cary spoke with the doctors, and I feel like he really stood up for my husband and let them know that he did not feel that it was safe to send him home in that condition with uncontrolled pain. My husband ended up being admitted and was able to get his pain under control and was able to go home the next day. I am so thankful that Cary was his nurse. He was knowledgeable, caring, funny, and very personable. I wish there were more nurses like him. He made an absolutely horrible situation much easier to deal with.
Thank you, Cary, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
