January 2022 Honoree
Caryn Rosen, BSN, RN
I visited the cancer center for my quarterly phlebotomy and was assigned to Caryn. She has been a nurse for 35 years and I was so overwhelmed by her compassion, her skill set, and her positive energy. I was dealing with significant vertigo the day before and I was a little reluctant to go ahead with the procedure. But Caryn’s knowledge, common sense, and critical thinking allowed me to make a decision to go ahead with the phlebotomy. Historically, this has not been a “one stick” deal for me but she was amazing. She was able to perform the procedure and actually replaced twice what she took out with NS to keep me hydrated. I know this was not a life or death, matter but just knowing someone cares about you when you don’t feel well is heartwarming. Greeting me with a smile, looking me in the eye, and acknowledging me by name is one of those automatic niceties that so often get pushed aside during a busy time or by a growling stomach or a bad day. Sometimes the superstars are the ordinary people we meet every day performing their jobs extraordinarily. I will remember Caryn as the nurse I’ve always strived to be! She is simple kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, and personable. I pray that she remains a nurse until the very last minute she is able because she truly is a gift from heaven to her patients.
Thank you, Caryn, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
