Casey continually goes above and beyond when it comes to patients having a safe discharge. For example, Casey always ensures patients discharging home with a Foley catheter have a confirmed urology appointment outpatient before they leave the hospital. In one particular instance, a patient was admitted with a cauda equina and was discharging home with a catheter. This patient was uninsured and could not afford out-of-pocket costs. Casey spent several days calling urology offices around the area to get the patient free or discounted services. She was able to find the patient an appointment she could afford before her discharge. Unfortunately, this patient was readmitted for worsening surgical symptoms and Casey met with the patient to see if her previous urology appointment went smoothly. The patient had to discharge with a catheter after the subsequent admission, but Casey knew exactly what to do. The patient felt comfortable with her discharge plan knowing Casey was on her side.
