Casey Smith noticed her pediatric patient's history of illness. Her patient had been suffering for weeks and experienced multiple ER visits. Casey researched pediatric diseases, performed an in-depth physical assessment and listened intently to the patient's parents' concerns. She sought out fellow nurses, the unit manager, and communicated with the physician.
Casey diligently advocated for this patient and the patient was transferred to a large pediatric center where he was found to have a rare strand of the flu.

The parents of a young child being treated at the hospital had forgotten their son's car seat. The father asked if someone was available to take him to the store to purchase a car seat. Casey took him to the store. Once they were there, a car seat was chosen which was beyond the father's financial means. Casey urged the father to purchase the seat and gave him the money he needed to buy the car seat. She also bought the child a couple outfits. The father was incredibly grateful and could not say enough kind things about her.
