October 2022 Honoree
Cassandra Lee, BSN, RN
My husband had laser eye surgery for which eye drops were necessary following the procedure. At about 5 pm that day we learned that the prescription was sent to a mail-order pharmacy instead of the local pharmacy. We called the patient advisory number and received extraordinary care from Cassie. She contacted the on-call eye physician to determine that the drops were necessary. She knew that the local pharmacies would not be open late enough for us to get the drops. She located a pharmacy 30 minutes away and ordered the drops. When we got to the pharmacy within 10 minutes of closing time, we learned the drops were not available. The pharmacist had another suggestion, but it required approval. We contacted Cassie again and through several phone calls, quick thinking, and really caring about the dilemma, she secured the doctor’s approval and we had the drops a minute before the pharmacy closed. It was a very stressful situation for us, and she was incredibly kind and helpful every step of the way. She knew how to move along quickly and get the job done. She always asked for his name and birthdate to the point we all laughed, but she kept protocol. We felt the situation was successful because she really cared. We were both extremely grateful for her service and care.
Thank you, Cassandra, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
