My dog lunged for another dog behind me, pulling me down to the sidewalk. My left hand and forearm had skin tears. (I am 70 years old with sun-damaged skin.) The one on the top of my left hand was about 1"x2" with no skin on it. The doctor and I worried that there might not be enough skin to cover the wound, and it wasn't deep enough for stitches.

Thank goodness for Cassandra Godwin. After she used gel to deaden my skin and open the wound, she began the tedious process of unfurling my skin. Slowly but surely, she unrolled pieces of skin to pull over the hole. All but about 1/2" was stretched out over the wound.

Even the PA was surprised at the coverage. She enthusiastically said that this would be easy to hold together with steri strips. After the PA applied the strips, Cassandra began wrapping my forearm and hand.

Cassandra was a quiet warrior for me. She had such a gentle touch with those tools to unroll skin. Cassandra had the skills, knowledge, and determination to help this 70-year-old woman heal a traumatic wound. Today, the skin is healed, and you'd never know of the damage that occurred.
