Recently, Cassy was caring for an oncology patient who has some unique behaviors and sensitivities. In talking to his mother, she discovered that the patient's older brother was going to be graduating from high school on the upcoming Friday. At this point in the patient's journey, his ANC was 0 and would not be able to be discharged from the hospital and attend the graduation as a whole family. Due to the patient's sensitivities to new people he is not familiar with, one of the parents was also not going to be able to attend the graduation. It was at this point that Cassy offered to stay after her 12-hour shift to stay with the patient so both of his parents could see his older brother graduate. Cassy stayed with the patient until approximately 10 pm that evening. Both parents were able to attend the monumental event of their son. This is a true example of being supportive, compassionate, and caring to our patient and his family. It is truly an example of going above and beyond and making a difference in the patient experience.
