During a recent patient's hospitalization, the patient experienced a family tragedy, losing her sister. The funeral was planned to be during the patient's hospitalization, so she would be unable to attend. Cassie jumped on it, asking for help from her nurse manager to arrange a way for the patient to attend.

With the help of IT, we were able to secure a laptop that could connect the patient to the church's livestream of the funeral service. Another nurse, Talesia, was working the day we arranged everything and was going to be the charge nurse the day of the service. She obtained the laptop from the house supervisor, connected the patient to the church's website, and allowed the patient to virtually attend her sister's funeral.

Many tears were shed, but there was also the ability for the patient to experience closure from this devastating loss. Our unit is so thankful for our nurses who truly go above and beyond for our patients, listening carefully to what matters most to them, and taking the steps to ensure the things that matter the most are executed!
