Her gentle reassurance and genuine care made an unbearable situation feel a little less scary.
A few months ago, my 2-year-old daughter was a patient in the ER, and I can honestly say it was one of the most frightening experiences of my life. Seeing my young child scared was overwhelming, and I was deeply shaken. In the midst of that chaos, Cassie stepped in with a calm, reassuring presence that instantly put me at ease. She was so kind, polite, and empathetic, never making me feel like I was a terrible parent, just a worried mom trying to do her best. Her gentle reassurance and genuine care made an unbearable situation feel a little less scary.
What makes Cassie’s kindness even more remarkable is that I later discovered she was the same nurse who cared for me during a very difficult time in 2019, when I came into the ER with appendicitis during the height of COVID-19. I was alone in a room (due to COVID restrictions), scared and uncertain, and Cassie was there for me— (mind you, my mother's funeral was a day before this), listening to my fears, offering comfort, and showing compassion in a time when I felt most vulnerable. As a daughter of a nurse myself—who had dedicated over 40 years to caring for others—I truly understand how impactful compassionate healthcare workers can be. Cassie exemplifies everything that makes a great nurse: passion, kindness, patience, and an unwavering dedication to helping others during their most difficult moments.
Her exceptional care has left a lasting impression on my family and I. In a world that often feels hurried and impersonal, Cassie’s genuine compassion reminds us of the profound difference a caring nurse can make. She is a shining example of what healthcare should be, and I believe she truly deserves the DAISY Award for her extraordinary kindness and dedication.
