There are many things that a nurse can learn, but there are certain qualities that a nurse has that separate them into an elite category. She certainly has those qualities, and her work helps patients live well and helps improve the dynamics of the Advocate/Aurora family.
She has a strong work ethic and takes a lot of pride in her role within our team.  She works as a charge nurse for HBO in our limb preservation clinic, is an in-chamber attendant for our ICU HBO dives, and is always there to answer the call for help with patients.  She maintains a positive rapport with staff/teammates and patients, for which I have received many positive feedbacks from patients. She often goes the extra mile for patients, and there is one recent patient/clinical scenario that I felt was worth extra recognition.  At the end of a long weekend working together in HBO, she was completing her responsibilities as charge nurse and had us all set to start a critical HBO patient in the late hours.  After she made sure the night team was set, she was all packed up to leave.  As she is leaving the department, I received a page from a floor nurse in the Knisely building. The phone call was on speaker and a floor nurse was describing a clinical concern of spontaneous larvae exiting the wounds of a new wound patient.  As I explained to the floor nurse how to manage spontaneous larvae removal from a wound base and how to place a dressing, the immediate response from the floor nurse can only be described as a sensation of panic, followed by a long pause, which ended with a prolonged exhale of "ehhhahhh."

She, without hesitation, put all of her things down and leaned into the phone, and said, "Don't worry, I will come up to help you." She, who was past her work hours and packed up to leave and go home to her family, knew that the nurse on the floor was not comfortable managing this clinical need and the patient was in need of extra help/cares. She went upstairs and managed the care at a high level, making a major impact on a nurse teammate and a patient. This is one example of her commitment to her work and the patients she cares for. There are many things that a nurse can learn, but there are certain qualities that a nurse has that separate them into an elite category. She certainly has those qualities, and her work helps patients live well and helps improve the dynamics of the Advocate/Aurora family. I am very proud to work on the same team as her, and I would recommend her for this recognition with the highest regard. Thank you for all that you do and will continue to do for our patients!
