She allowed the family as a whole to make decisions, and the approach was to provide information and not press for a decision on the spot, but rather to let them talk it over and then provide a decision.
The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to Cassie and all that she did for the patient when she was moved to the ICU. She was present for a shift on Saturday and Sunday when she passed.

Her focus on the patient was amazing; she continued to communicate with her on what was to be expected and with a high level of respect. This was observed many times by the family and me personally, and continued even when she couldn't respond to them.
She ensured that she stayed on certain medications until she was ready to start this process, too. Once the patient was approved for discharge, she ensured that the patient had access to pain medications to keep her comfortable at all times.

She also focused on keeping the family informed. She allowed the family as a whole to make decisions, and the approach was to provide information and not press for a decision on the spot, but rather to let them talk it over and then provide a decision.
She also created an environment where the family was able to easily communicate with her about the care of the patient when she was not able to. Honestly, we rarely have to call for Cassie; she seemed to know when the patient or the family needed her and was on top of the patient's care and keeping her comfortable.

The accommodations made by Cassie for the family were great, including finding chairs, ensuring we had space outside the room, providing a refreshment cart, and keeping it stocked. Cassie attended to immediate family constantly.
When it came down to the final hours, Cassie arrived and began talking to the patient, making adjustments and assisting her with pain medications. When the patient passed, Cassie was in the room very quickly. She continued to explain what was happening and what she needed to do.

Cassie continued to provide updates to the family on what was happening with the deceased patient and that the funeral home was due to arrive soon, while continuing to be respectful and empathetic to the family.
We believe that the compassion that was demonstrated to the family was great considering the circumstances. Losing a loved one is never easy, even when we know it might be coming, but having someone like Cassie there to help makes a huge difference.
