Katy was working night shift, a difficult time to try and talk to get to know your patients; but somehow she manages anyway. She listened to her patient express his concerns of not being able to do anything for his wife's birthday, due to being in the hospital and his wallet missing since the car accident. Katy suggested he make her a card. He really wanted to be able to buy her something, but had no way to pay for it. Katy, in the middle of her shift, went down to the cafeteria and bought a piece of chocolate cake for the patient to give to his wife. Katy helped her patient and his family feel some relief and normalcy in a hard, unexpected time. Katy does this without thinking; it is second nature to go out of her way for others!
