All of the nurses on TCU met our expectations. However, Catherine exceeded our expectations. We were blessed to have her assigned to C.
From the beginning, Catherine demonstrated all of the qualities of an extraordinary nurse. She showed such compassion and support during our initial hours of fear. As we felt ourselves losing control, she was there to answer our questions and ease our fears, while helping us maintain the things we could control.
What impressed us was Catherine's sincerity. If she didn't know the answer to a question we asked, she told us so, but then she would find out the answer. She was so kind and empathetic toward C and our family. She actively listened to our concerns and questions and addressed them immediately.
You could tell she was knowledgeable about C's condition. She was the first nurse to resolve the fighting, yelling, kicking and screaming during a blood sugar fingerstick. Two magic words, "look up" resolved the entire issue. It is a practice that still works for C. From that moment, we know God sent Catherine to our family at the most important time of our lives. She was there so C could heal, get better and return to being a normal seven-year-old boy. For that we say, Thank you, Catherine, for choosing to be a nurse, you are our DAISY.
