Katie recently took care of a patient on med psych who was severely depressed to the point that eating and taking her medications were difficult for her. Katie spent a lot of time with her each shift. At times giving her medications could take half an hour. She encouraged her to bathe and dress and to go to group. This patient would ask for Katie when she was off from work. The family of the patient was aware of Katie’s care and felt at ease when she was present. Patient and caring are the two best words to describe Katie. This is a small example of what Katie does each and every shift. She advocates for all of her patients and her unit. She is humble, compassionate and the true essence of what nursing should be.
