Catherine has recently become a SANE (sexual assault nurse examiner), specializing in patients who are going through a very delicate and difficult situation; an exam which takes at least 4 hours to complete and sometimes longer. She does this for a group of patients that potentially are experiencing one of, if not the worst, situations in their lives. Catherine has come in to the ED to perform a SANE examination during her birthday dinner celebration with her husband to ensure that the patient would receive care from someone trained to deal with their circumstances.
Both sexual assault advocates as well as her patients have commented on her compassion, kindness, care and efficiency in performing her examinations. She shows her commitment not only to her patients but to her co-workers as well. She does so quietly and with great compassion.
