For the 2 nights that I wholeheartedly attempted to delivery naturally, I found myself with a very kind, patient and attentive nurse. Not only did I find comfort in the fact that she shared a bit of her life with me, I felt some sense of support even though she had just met me. It was nice having a military veteran find a career after the military that perfectly suits her personality. She responded rapidly upon me pressing the button for assistance, was very compassionate with the way she treated me. She provided support and lovingly told me that though I didn't have family or friends there, that I had them (nurse staff) and that I would not be alone no matter what. Her words touched my heart but her actions that proved that her words were sincere, truly took my heart in gratitude. She guided me with honesty, realistic expectations but was VERY positive through the entirety of my stay. I suffered for two days with overwhelming contractions, but she was there to promptly administer medication and helped me in and out of bed to make me as comfortable as can be. She went out of her way and placed pillows to surround me, came in periodically to make sure I wasn't in need of something else and after hard laboring for 2 days, I finally hit my 10 cm stage and was instructed to begin the actual labor session. After pushing for 2 hours, I began to get discouraged and the attending doctor suggested C-section soon after, but Catherine knew how scared I was of that procedure. She took it into her own hands and STILL attempted to help deliver naturally, from switching positions, recruiting other nurses on duty that were on break or not busy at the time. She didn't give up on me, I told her I felt like a failure and she instantly corrected my feelings and provided loving support and reassurance. Time came and doctor ordered an emergency C-section, I felt the world was collapsing all around me but Catherine reassured me that everything would be okay, she shared some more about herself and told me she had 3 of them and she was perfectly fine, she brought in other nurses to be my support system and assured me she would be there with me along the way. I have NEVER felt so much love from a nurse. For the first time ever, I realized that nurses do the hard work and are truly the backbone of the medical field.
