Ms. Perry helped her beyond just the weight loss program, rather looked at her as a human with complex issues and took the time to advocate for her and involve other providers to get Ms. B the care she needs.
Ms. B called me today wanting to recognize Ms. Perry for the extraordinary care she received while enrolled in the TeleMOVE! program at VACT and feels strongly that she is deserving of this honor.

Ms. B describes herself as having previously been unsatisfied with the care she has received at VACT; however, states that Ms. Perry’s efforts have made a huge difference in her overall experience here.  She explains that Ms. Perry helped her beyond just the weight loss program, rather looked at her as a human with complex issues and took the time to advocate for her and involve other providers to get Ms. B the care she needs.  Specifically, Ms. B explains that beyond her long-term weight issues, she has high blood pressure, and, while not part of the TeleMOVE! protocol, Ms. Perry assisted in getting providers to adjust medications and contact Ms. B, something she had struggled with in her 6 years of receiving care here.  Per this veteran, Ms. Perry paid attention to her and her issues more than anyone else ever has.

Another example of Ms. Perry’s exceptional customer service and discretionary effort is her taking the time to teach Ms. B how to have a VVC appointment with her provider.  Ms. B explains that she lives over an hour away from the West Haven campus and coming here to see her providers is a hardship, especially with current gas prices.  Ms. Perry took the time to walk Ms. B through the VVC process, teach her the ins and outs of this modality, and, in the process, determined that Ms. B was using improper technique when taking her blood pressure at home.  Ms. Perry was able to demonstrate via video the proper placement of the cuff and walk Ms. B through the correct process to measure her blood pressure.  As a result, Ms. B is confident in her results and feels comfortable using VVC to meet with her providers instead of always driving to West Haven.

Finally, Ms. B recently experienced a loss in her family when her stepfather passed away unexpectedly.  Ms. Perry took the time to listen and coach Ms. B through the challenges this stress would put on her health and wellness goals.  They spoke about coping strategies and how to make good choices during that difficult time. Ms. B states that Ms. Perry has “renewed my get up and go to lose weight!”
