Catherine is an incredible nurse that deserves to be recognized. She came to our OBGYN office in March to start a different path in her career. She had just gotten over COVID-19 at the time. She had been exposed to a very sick patient while working at North Shore's post-partum unit prior to coming to work at our office. One day into starting at our office, she was redeployed to work at Southside Hospital's post-partum unit. This was a makeshift unit down the road from the hospital, and conditions were not ideal. Catherine never complained; she just said that she was happy that she was able to help. Once she was able to leave her redeployment assignment and officially join our staff, she jumped right in. She asked a lot of questions, wrote everything down, and if she wasn't sure about something, she read up on it. She very quickly became a strong nurse that could triage our very heavy patient load. A few weeks ago, Catherine's triage skills were put to the test, and she excelled. She received two patient calls during that week which after speaking to the patient, and based on her nursing assessment, she sent both patients to the hospital. One of the patients was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism, and the other patient was diagnosed with a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. If it were not for Catherine's quick thinking and exceptional assessment while triaging these patients over the phone, both of these patients may not have survived. We are very proud of her. She is very kind, caring, and patient with all of our patients. She is the true definition of a DAISY award winning nurse.
