This nurse is such a hard-working leader.  She gives and works tirelessly for this unit. One of many examples of her going above and beyond is when she learned that my patient was extremely hard of hearing.  She immediately dug through his belongings to find his hearing aids, and when she found them, she put them on him, but soon realized that the batteries were most likely dead because the patient still could not communicate.  So out of her on time and money, she bought batteries after researching the type of battery needed.  She placed the hearing aids back in the patient, and he was able to follow commands when previously doctors thought he was having a neuro event.  Now that he could actually hear what we were saying, he could obey commands and tell us that he was having pain. Not only did this nurse leader go through the troubles of researching the type of batteries needed, she gave up her own time and money to help my patient, whereas others just chalked it up to a possible neuro symptom. She saved him another trip to CT scan of his brain.  Also, on this same day, she noticed a patient sitting in the chair could not bear weight.  So, she rounded up a crew to help the patient get safely back into bed. She literally picked up the majority of the patient to get him safely back into bed. These are just a couple of examples of what kind of leader and team player they really are. If anyone deserves a DAISY Award, it is Catherine. This is long overdue!
