My grandmother was taken to St. Francis by ambulance in a very critical state. We were moved up to the ICU from the ER. Cathy was our night nurse on our second day in the ICU. Let me tell you how amazing, generous, and thoughtful Cathy was! My grandmother had to be intubated due to her critical state, and once the sedation wore off, she had to ask me who her nurse was (she usually doesn’t care about the names). My grandmother stated that when Cathy was on shift, she felt safe, secure, and like a human.

In my eyes, Cathy went above and beyond for my grandmother and me (as I stayed with her the entire time she was in the hospital). She also said that when Cathy would do certain things, she would sing to her, absolutely melting my grandmother’s heart. Cathy even remembered my grandmother from a previous trip to the ICU, which meant even more to my grandma. Once my grandmother was no longer intubated, they talked about all of the things: Germany, my grandmother’s experience of coming to America, and many, many more stories. Cathy has forever put an imprint on my grandmother’s heart, and she will continue to choose St. Francis for all of her healthcare needs.
