Cathryn was my nurse and noticed the emotional burden as well as my physical suffering.
I was a patient at CRH for 4 days. I went through a major orthopedics surgery and it was my first time (other than giving birth to my son) staying in a hospital due to a painful unexpected injury. Due to the sudden loss of my ability to move well and care for myself, I had to rely tremendously on the healthcare team to support me. They supported me with basic cleaning, medications, communicating with my doctors, etc. There was one time I had an emotional breakdown due to the high level of pain after surgery and the self-struggle of not wanting to take more pain medications (as I was hoping to be released).
Cathryn was my nurse and noticed the emotional burden as well as my physical suffering. She was very patient. She stood by my bedside, holding my hand, showing me compassion, and listening to my concerns. She gave me a couple of suggestions on how to manage my pain and she said she would support me with whatever I choose. Quickly we were able to agree on how to move forward. My emotional and physical burden was much relieved because of Cathryn’s support. Even after several months when I think back to that moment, I am still feeling the warmth and kindness that Cathryn provided to me at my weakest moment.
