Cathryn had an extremely busy day on our unit and was receiving her second ED admission. This gentleman coming to our floor had been brought in disheveled and unkempt. He had been living in a room with very little outside contact for the last 4 years. Cathryn spent over 2 hours in the room with the patient talking and listening to him. She gave him emotional support that he had needed for a long time. She spent time bathing him, washing his hair, brushing his teeth and cleaning his fingernails. This patient was so appreciative and looked like a completely new man when she was done. We don't always have the time to spend with these patient's doing every day activities to make them feel normal again, but Cathryn did so with a smile the entire time on her face, never once complaining about how busy she was.
