Cathy goes above and beyond on a daily basis to make sure that her cardiac kids and their families get everything that they need while in the hospital and at home. A lot of us see her day to day work and know what she does in the hospital. However, I recently got to witness some of her behind the scenes work that no one would know about unless you had the privilege to witness it.
Cathy works with a team that makes it possible for kids who have heart disease and or have had heart surgery to go to camp.
Some parents only let their children attend this camp because they have known her since their children were infants and trust her completely.
I had the opportunity to assist Cathy at Camp Hearty this year and I got to see exactly what she does for these kids and I was amazed. We had 22 children at camp and Cathy took a special interest in every one of them.
She took responsibility for making sure that each and every one of them got their morning and evening medications on time. She did this in such a way that it did not disrupt their fun or play in any way.
Two of the children at camp showed up without the proper supplies. Cathy did not make a big deal about it, she just hopped in her truck and ran to the store to buy the girls what they needed. She didn't tell a single person; I only know these things because I witnessed them. Cathy didn't want thanks or recognition for doing what she did; she only wanted the girls to have a positive camp experience.
The next day at camp, Cathy noticed that one of the boys only had flip flop sandals on and he really needed closed toe shoes to be safe. Once again, Cathy got in her truck and went to the store to get the proper supplies. When she gave that little boy his shoes, I have never seen a bigger smile on a little face. He was very proud of his shoes that made him run fast.
These are just a few examples of the genuine kindness and caring heart that Cathy has. I have many more stories and examples.
I am nominating Cathy for the Daisy award because she is an extraordinary person on a daily basis who selflessly gives to her patients and their families.
