This nurse (Cathy) was witnessed taking care of a patient that was needing emergency surgery for the delivery of a stillborn. She never left the patient’s side; she assumed care of the patient in the emergency room due to a very high census and overwhelmed staff with the situation. She stayed with the patient and husband even through surgery. The ability she had to comfort the husband during this difficult time was a remarkable sight to see. She sat with him, answered questions, and gave him support. It was natural to her, she was so comfortable and calming to them. She truly touched that family during the worst day of their life without judgment and complete understanding.

You truly see the heart of gold Cathy has and she continually displays it with professionalism every day. Cathy also is an exceptional leader. Her expertise and passion for labor and delivery are like no other. She possesses a strong knowledge base in OB/ L&D with over 20 years of experience. She uses that knowledge to not only manage her department at Memorial but also teach clinical for the OB student nurses. Cathy remains current on nursing trends, guidelines, and evidence-based practices related to are of nursing and obstetrics.

Cathy is very visible and accessible to the unit and staff, many times she is the 3rd nurse on call after working all day. She is not only accessible to her unit at Memorial but on numerous occasions, she has been called to Fostoria Hospital during an OB emergency. She never hesitates and responds immediately not only by phone but physically present. She has compassion for the community including the patients and staff. She volunteers her time to help out in any way she can. Cathy is an extraordinary nurse and we appreciate all you do and the difference you make in the lives of so many people.
