She is known not only for her clinical expertise but also for her calm demeanor, her tireless support of her team, and her genuine care for patients and families alike.
Cathy, we are so excited for you as you embark on this well-deserved new chapter in your life. One that will be filled with some travel, perhaps, and exploring new interests, and certainly lots of family time. We cannot, however, let you leave without taking a moment to celebrate you and the incredible impact you have had at Evanston Hospital, the Intensive Care Unit, and so many team members whose paths have crossed with yours.

Over the years, you have not only guided your team with your expertise and vision but have also fostered a sense of community, trust, and respect that will continue to resonate long after your departure. Your unwavering commitment to clinical excellence has left a lasting legacy, and your leadership has shaped much of what has been achieved over the years. Cathy has mentored countless nurses, led numerous quality improvement initiatives, and played a pivotal role in successfully achieving the Beacon Award for Excellence, numerous Joint Commission surveys and Magnet designation and re-designation. She is known not only for her clinical expertise but also for her calm demeanor, her tireless support of her team, and her genuine care for patients and families alike.

I would like to share a powerful story that demonstrates your compassion and the selfless nature by which you practice, lead, and live. About a year and a half ago, a nurse from your team became quite ill and was hospitalized. You were vacationing in Florida with family at that time. As her condition worsened and it became clear that she was going to pass, you chose to return home early so as to be with your ICU team. To be with them, comfort them, and no doubt find comfort from them as well.

Cathy, thank you for being you. I have had the privilege to work with you for a long time and have loved every minute of it. You are kind, compassionate, calm, professional, and have an attitude that says no matter what, “I got this”.

What you have done for this ICU is hard to put into words; your leadership has been valued and appreciated so much. Your calmness and excellent communication style have helped us get through some challenging times. You are a loyal, respected, and trusted leader who is truly an inspiration to us all. Cathy, you will be missed, and we hope you enjoy every day relaxing and living life. You have left an imprint on this ICU that cannot be replaced, but we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you for your selfless acts of service and your kindness always. We wish you nothing but the best.
