Cathy showed so much compassion and care for both my parents that I am eternally grateful.
I am a staff member at Ohio’s Hospice, but I write this nomination as a family member of a Hospice patient. I’ve been doing Hospice care myself for 10 years. That being said, I was not prepared when my own father was placed in Hospice care. Being on the other side was so different. Cathy was my dad’s case manager. She was amazing. My dad was very stubborn and didn’t always listen to medical advice. Cathy was endlessly patient with him. My dad was always a talker and she always listened to his stories. She showed so much compassion and care for both my parents that I am eternally grateful. She definitely went above and beyond. As his health deteriorated, she was coming to see him every day. They, and I, never felt like she was in a hurry, or distracted by other duties. She was always present in the moment for us. Having a fellow hospice nurse as a family member also is very daunting (I speak from experience). She was always patient and very kind to me. She was an excellent communicator. I was able to get in touch with her easily and she always provided the needed help and assurance. I felt so comfortable on the days she was going out to see my dad. I also know that both my parents felt such relief to have her checking in on him. On the day he passed, she was an absolute rock. She helped to guide us through the process and having her there helped me to be able to step back and grieve as a daughter. Cathy showed so much patience, caring, and compassion for my entire family during the process. Thank you is definitely not enough.
