I know that Cathy's commitment to her patients was further exemplified by the fact that she drove an hour to work one way.
It is with admiration and appreciation that I nominate Cathy Wilson for the DAISY Award. I have known Cathy for a long time. Over the years, Cathy always seemed to be working in the ER when we had family members who were ill, died suddenly, or when I needed care. Cathy always had such a kind, reassuring presence.
Cathy took time and had a way of knowing what was needed....a quick IV start (and she never missed), medication, a reassuring gesture, a hug, a glass of water, and even stopped to ask how we were doing. What was so amazing was that Cathy did all of that, regardless of how busy she was with the rest of her patients. She always made us feel like we were the only patient in the ER.
Additionally, when I saw Cathy, I knew she would do things correctly - using 2 patient identifiers - making sure the medications were correct. This brought a sense of peace because I did not have to worry about the care that was being provided. Finally, I know that Cathy's commitment to her patients was further exemplified by the fact that she drove an hour to work one way. Regardless of the weather, her own family issues, and how she was feeling, she was there, putting others first. I cannot tell you what a quiet, unassuming angel Cathy has been for me and my extended family. She exemplifies what the DAISY Award was established to recognize - skilled compassionate caring nurses who selflessly make a difference in the lives of others. Thank you, Cathy, for all you have done for so many people.
