I have worked in the ICU at St. David’s South Austin and have seen a lot of nurse educators come and go, but Cat is by far the best.

The way that she educates leaves you well-informed, but also happy, as you likely just spent the last 15 minutes or more laughing and smiling as she gestures and jokes. She has been able to clearly articulate new information in a way that really sticks and helped me to save a life.

Cat takes the time to ensure that the night shift has full representation and gets just as much education as the day shift. She comes in early or stays late to ensure all the nurses are educated and cared for.

Most recently, Cat provided an in-service on pacemakers, and I was able to take what I learned a week later and resuscitate a patient that would have died otherwise.

I truly cannot say enough good things about Cat. She has a great heart and sees the best in every nurse. When a nurse is struggling on orientation, she will have countless meetings with them and will join them on shift to gain a real understanding of their areas of improvement.

In my 8 years of nursing, I’ve never known an educator to care as much as Cat or to teach as effectively. With Cat, there’s no such thing as a stupid question. Education is her true calling, and we are so lucky to have her.
