Catrina is an encouragement to those in healthcare that in personal pain and loss, one can work through healing with time, truth, and grace from a supportive team (kudos to the ICC team).
Catrina deserves to be recognized for the personal work she has done for herself and others, which has truly had a positive effect on her patient care. Catrina has always been known as a kind, caring, selfless, hardworking nurse.

Catrina was able to acknowledge that some significant personal circumstances were impeding her ability to care for her patients as she normally does. After taking a break from caring for specific patients, she again suffered another challenging personal situation. These events caused Catrina to self-reflect even further. Realizing that she was not in an appropriate place to care for patients she sought out options for self-care both at work and outside of work. Catrina ended up taking a leave of absence to continue to work on her self-care.

Our hope was that Catrina could heal while on leave and return to our team. That hope was more than fulfilled. Catrina returned from her leave ready to care for patients. She has received multiple positive patient comments and DAISY Award nominations from patient family members.

Most recently, Catrina received this comment:

“The RN Catrina was the best nurse to ever have taken care of me over the year! Myself, as an RN, I am rating Catrina as a perfect nurse, none better. I graduated from nursing school 80 years ago and have known, worked with, and been taken care of by many, many nurses, and Catrina is by far the best. She is kind, caring, compassionate, efficient, and professional in every way.”

There were many powerful words, in DAISY nominations, shared by multiple family members who lost a loved one on ICC.  These words hit me the most when reading them:

"To see how Catrina took care of him gave me and my family such peace.”

"When we left my brother each night, we never had to worry about him; we knew Catrina would take care of him."

Catrina returned with a brighter Light around her, which is having a profound positive impact on others. From a nurse who struggled to care for others to a nurse who made all the difference for a family losing a loved one, Catrina is going above and beyond for her patients. Catrina is an encouragement to those in healthcare that in personal pain and loss, one can work through healing with time, truth, and grace from a supportive team (kudos to the ICC team).

Through this journey, Catrina was able to return to providing compassionate and kind patient care on ICC. Catrina, we are honored to have you as a team member on the ICC team. Thank you for helping bring light to a dark place and pushing back against that darkness in your own walk and on ICC.
