CatyBeth Gooding, BSN, RN

As an intensivist in some of the sickest units in our country, I have seen abundant examples of outstanding care across the spectrum of caregivers. CatyBeth Gooding is a phenomenal nurse in a setting that is already consistently exceptional in my view and experience. She is extraordinarily sharp and attentive. I have also found her to excel under pressure in a way that is uncommon in general – but particularly without decades of experience. She is also somehow able to navigate the complex interpersonal interactions that occur in the care of critically-ill surgical patients, such as the stress of "too many cooks in the kitchen." I cannot overemphasize her work ethic and intelligence. In addition, she navigates the delicate balance of personal excellence and team-based care with grace. The latest example of her exceptionalism was in the care of a lung transplant recipient who required constant vigilance and an exhausting amount of interventions. Language does not afford me the means to describe my appreciation for her efforts. Suffice it to say that after 12 hours of this gruel, she was still brightly saying "thank you!" and getting the job done!
