It has been my pleasure to work with Cecilia on 2West for the past few years. She is an excellent nurse and an amazing team member. She is always offering to help out her team at any time. She's always the first person to offer help on the unit, and she is always checking in on each member of the team to see how they are doing. She comes to work with a positive and caring attitude each shift. She is a mentor to newer nurses, and she is an amazing nurse. If I or anyone in my family were in the hospital, I would be requesting for her to be the nurse. Her compassion and knowledge as a nurse are unmatched. Cecilia cares for each patient with such excellence and goes above and beyond her job requirements.

This is just one of many examples of why Cecilia is deserving of the DAISY Award: We see many patients with cancer on our unit. We see the devastating effects that it has on our patients and their families. One patient in particular had been on our unit for several weeks to months. She celebrated her 30th birthday while in the hospital. Cecilia coordinated a birthday celebration for this patient so that she could feel special while having to spend her milestone and last birthday in the hospital. Cecilia even came in on her day off to wish the patient a happy birthday and brought her her favorite boba tea.

I feel so fortunate and lucky to work with such an amazing nurse and friend. I have been a patient before, and it is one of the reasons I wanted to become a nurse, and Cecilia is the type of nurse that made me want to do this for my career. Doing those special things and showing that you care means so much to patients.

We had another patient that we all loved and is now in remission. This patient also was celebrating her 25th birthday in between her rounds of chemo. Cecilia is one of the nurses who helped me create a birthday box for this patient and bought little gifts to put in it with her own money so we could make this patient's birthday special while she was stuck in the hospital receiving her monthly chemo.

We also had a young mother pass away from cancer, and the care that Cecilia gave this patient and her family was so inspiring and warmed my heart. I could write about what makes Cecilia a great nurse all day. If you see Cecilia on the staffing sheet when you are relief charge or if she's in the relief charge, you know it will be a good day! She steps up on the unit and is always willing to help coworkers. She is so knowledgeable and is a great teacher and always willing to teach. She goes above and beyond for not only HER patients but ALL of our patients, as well as all of her coworkers. She wants to see all patients progress and sees the patient as a person and not as a patient. It is my honor to nominate this amazing nurse. Thank you.
