Cecilia is the type of nurse I hope to be one day. She is not only hardworking & smart but also kind & gentle. As a preceptor to me and other nurses, Cecilia ingrains a work ethic that goes beyond the "to-do lists." Her patients are clean and cared for continuously (i.e., turned q2, oral/mouth care, hair washed, sheets cleaned). All of these seem expected but can often be overlooked. If Cecilia has downtime, she is on the floor helping other nurses; the work or assistance she provides for others is never beneath her. She's a resource for everyone around her despite also having her own responsibilities. Cecilia is extremely knowledgeable- as evidenced by her confidence & the confidence of others to confide in her. A true quality, I believe, of a smart person is one who wants to learn as well. Cecilia, herself, asks tough questions, she wants to know more. She is a leader and a learner. As smart & hardworking as Cecilia is, she is also kind & gentle. Her calming demeanor makes the best out of most situations. She is calm in moments of fear or difficulty. She sets the example of how to address the tough moments and tough questions with self-control and poise. I am quite certain that Cecilia may not see all of these qualities in herself, but I am positive that if asked, every other nurse in our unit will say the same words that I do. She is the kind of nurse I would want and trust my family to be in the care of.
